2015, the reality of the present year becomes real; a new year…a new
beginning. I sit here looking back and
wonder how 2014 flew by and the many accomplishments MOSAIC experienced; all
positive. We’ve had many guest speakers
from organizations such as the Health & Welfare Council of L.I.; Sepa
Mujer; Make the Road; Long Island Wins, and the Small Business Development
Center @ Stony Brook. MOSAIC had its
second “Navigating Your Community” Fair on May 9th at the East
Northport Public Library, organized by Michelle Athanas who did a great job. On May 16, 2015 the Huntington Public Library
will be running the “Navigating Your Community” Fair. The annual MOSAIC breakfast “Reaching Out to
Unique Communities” which took place in May was a success with guest speakers
Marybeth Zeman, author of Tales of a
Jailhouse Librarian and Letticia Cotto, Branch Manager of the Hartford
Public Library Park Branch, who spoke to the group about engaging Spanish
speakers in your community and Story Walk. MOSAIC
even partnered with CLASC and hopes to continue collaborating with children’s
librarians from the various libraries. I
am optimistic and excited, as I look ahead, that 2015 will be another stellar
year for MOSAIC. Our next meeting is scheduled for January 13, 2015 at 10:00
(9:30 coffee) @ SCLS. And…thank you all for your
collaboration, ideas, and support in making MOSAIC, its meetings, fair and
breakfast such a success. Best wishes
for a healthy and happy New Year. el
