If you are a children's librarian looking for help in better serving your Spanish-speaking patrons, but you are unfamiliar with the language, culture, or both have no fear! This site will provide resources to help you communicate, learn more about latino and hispanic cultures, find great children's books in Spanish, and network with other librarians who serve Spanish-speaking children, so that we can all benefit from each other's great ideas!

WebJunction - Spanish Outreach revamped relaunched for 2010!!
I just got notified that WebJunction has revamped and relaunched the Spanish Outreach course that some of us took in April 2007, presented by Jean Kaleda, at the Huntington Station Branch Library.
Here is the link to WebJunction's April newsletter which contains info on the course and other interesting Webinars being offered (i.e. Serving Today's Older Adults). The Spanish Outreach course is being offered through April at half price ($20-a real bargain!), for a four hour course. If your library won't pay for it, it is well worth investing in for yourself.
Would anyone be interested in doing this as a group? At our Selden branch we have a computer lab with 20 computers and projector. We could gather, watch together, then discuss.
Either way, please take a look!!

Assaulted Dream (Asalto al Sueño), documentary
Here is some information about the documentary Assaulted Dream (Asalto al Sueño) by German filmmaker Uli Stelzner. It is about the human rights crisis for migrants in southern Mexico as they travel to the United States. We have a showing scheduled at Middle Country Public Library for Friday, 7pm, July 16th. It is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. There will be a discussion following the film, led by a Human Rights activist. The film's intention is not to discuss the political sides of immigration, but to demonstrate the daily lives and sufferings of migrants.
Preview about the documentary is titled "Uli Stelzner in New York:"
